Shri Ganesha, the God of learning and the remover of obstacles, is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is considered as the God of auspicious beginnings and bestower of fortune in abundance. Shri Ganesha is also called Vinayak (proficient) or Vighneshwar (God to remove deterrants).
He is the first worshipped God. His trunk symbolizes the fact that the wise person has both immense strength and fine discrimination. He has large ears to hear all. He has four hands. In one hand He holds a lotus, the symbol of enlightenment. In the other hand He holds a hatchet; with which the old karma, all the sanskars, the accumulated good and bad of past deeds get cut when enlightenment comes. The third hand holds laddus, the round sweet-meats; the rewards of a wise life. The fourth hand is shown blessing the people. A unique combination of his elephant like head and quick moving tiny mouse vehicle represents excellent wisdom for intelligence and presence of mind.
In this particular idol, Shri Ganesh is shown sitting on a peacock. This has a story attached to it. Once lord Shiva put the intelligence of his two sons to test. Shri Ganesh and Shri Kartikeya were asked to take a round of the world and return to Shiva with the dictate that whosoever returned first would be rewarded. Kartikeya immediately set off on peacock, His vehicle whereas Ganesh pondered how to cover the world on His tiny mouse. He interpreted His father’s words and concluded that His parents were everything to Him; they were His world. So He took a round of His parents and showed prowess of His intelligence and wisdom.
Here, one can see a Shri Ganesha resin idol in a silver finished colour, referring to the above story of the peacock, all-knowing, wise and composed.
