Shri Ganesha is the ever-blissful Deva who is lovingly worshiped and revered by millions of people worldwide. Although He is known through the Hindu religion, Shri Ganesha transcends religion and is loved by many non-Hindu's. Ganapati is worshiped by both Vaishnavas (devotees of Vishnu) and Saivites (devotees of Shiva).

Shri Ganesha, the God of learning and the remover of obstacles, is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is considered as the God of auspicious beginnings and bestower of fortune in abundance. Shri Ganesha is also called Vinayak (proficient) or Vighneshwar (God to remove deterrants). He is the first worshipped God.

In the typical four-arm configuration, Shri Ganesha's lower right hand holds his broken tusk. His lower-left hand holds a bowl of sweet delicacies (modakapātra) which he samples with his trunk, while his upper hands carry an axe and a noose as symbols of His ability to cut through obstacles or to create them as needed. A unique combination of His elephant like head and quick moving tiny mouse vehicle represents excellent wisdom for intelligence and presence of mind.

Shri Ganesha is one of the Gods that lends well to artistic expression and freedom. The results - there are so many Ganesha forms that one sees today. Right from Ganesha's for interior decoration to the Ganesha in temples, there are different meanings and postures that have been experimented with.

Here, one can see see a Shri Ganesha resin idol in a sitting posture, charming and pleasing, wearing a Rajasthani type turban, as one of the myriad avatars that reflect the times we live in.
